Jowah’s BLM Part one: Equipment

Everyone wrote at least one post talking about their gear with one or more specific job! That’s why I’m going to put down something about my Black Mage. Duh, I just love this job, and I’m working like everyday to improve it~!
Will list only the pieces I actually USE, not what I have but not using anymore like Rostrum Pumps. So… let’s start!

Weapons/Grips

Obviously, Elemental staves. Aquilo (ice), Jupiter’s (lightning), Apollo’s (light), Pluto’s (dark), Terra’s (earth). Others are all NQ. I know both light and earth HQ are kinda lol for BLM but obviously I’m carrying them over thanks to Bard and White mage.
Kirin’s Pole, for stoneskin and elemental dot macros. It’s an awesome MND and INT boost, really valuable for those two spells, but I hope I’ll be able to switch to elemental staves someday when castings dots.
Have Asklepios but will use this only to trig Sorc’ ring once I’ll get it.
Bugard Strap +1, additional INT. Never hurts.

Looking forward to: All HQ staves. Need more magic accuracy for HNM fights, since getting resists is very very common.

Ranged

Lamiabane. I use the enhancement very rarely, but free refresh over an hour is very good. Plus, being this a returning range weapon for all jobs makes it an excellent pulling item, especially in salvage where everything aggroes to magic.

Looking forward to: Nothing.

Ammo

Phantom Tahtlum. Only gaining 10 more MP over RSE Sweet Sachet. But that’s the best (and only) permanent piece for this slot anyway.
Spirit Lantern, it’s awesome when I want to quick solo or zerg something, I usually use this on ENM or Avatar solo fights. Damage with this is greatly improved.

Looking forward to: Nothing.

Head

Demon Helm +1. Best nuking headgear in the whole game. I don’t get it why people keep nuking ALL mobs with Sorcerer/Wizard Petasos. Leave your AF1 in storage and use AF2 only on high resistance HNMs, noobs.
Igqira Tiara. Enfeebling Piece. Nothing to say about that.
Nashira Turban: Using this for non elemental/enfeebling spells when I need best accuracy. This means, Drain and Aspir. And a little haste doesn’t hurt either.
Walahra Turban, more haste for stuns
Errant Hat, just another stoneskin macro piece.
Zenith Crown will be used in the future to trigger Sorc’. Leaving this in MH at the moment.

Looking forward to: Genie Tiara, Morrigan Coronal, Sorcerer Petasos, Goliard Chapeau. Mostly aiming to AF2 for Elemental+ set (to use with Kirins, Khimaira, and so on) and the Chapeau for hMP build. Morrigan head will just replace errant head for stoneskin, and will be useful in the future once I’ll manage to complete the whole set.

Neck

Elemental Torque. Standard nucking neckpiece.
Spider Torque for enfeeblings, really nothing to say here as well, its use is quite obvious.
Uggalepih Pendant. Awesome situational gear, nicely improves your nukes when you’re able to trigger its latent. A must have.
Dark torque, for dark based elemental spells.
Philomath Stole, another piece for elemental dots build. Moar INT pleaseeeeee!
Promise Badge, stoneskin macro.

Looking forward too: Enfeebling Torque, Grandiose chain, Prudence torque. Really really need to ungimp myself tossing spider torque and getting enf one. Chain for hMP. Prudence to replace/improve elemental dots.

Earrings

Moldavite: One of the two best nuking earpiece in the whole game.
Morion. I don’t have the HQ version of this (morion or phantom are basically the same INT wise) and I don’t really feel to throw 600.000gils into this. Will do till Novio :p
Relaxing is so awesome for hMP. The hard work to get it is really worth it!
Reraise earring ……. can I count this as well?

Looking forward to: Novio, Antivenom/Rapture earring. Surprisingly I don’t have a second eargear for hMP. Easy stuff to get anyway lol. And Novio is just…….. Black Mage gasm piece. Me wants it liek now.

Body

$Wizard\'s Coat +1$

Igqira Weskit, great oldschool nuking piece. Only morrigan/genie are better than this.
Wizard Coat +1 is BEST enfeebling body, and can replace Errant Hpl. for resting. First AF1 everyone should upgrade.
Errant Houppelande is another piece for stoneskin and elemental dots macros. Besides this, There are no real uses.
Black Cloak. Only purpose of this is getting free refresh while moving from place to place.

Looking forward to: Sorcerer’s Coat/Genie Weskit/Morrigan robe. Mahatma Hpl and Nashira Manteel. Sorc coat is just a “fashion” gear going to replace Black’s. Genie weskit will obviously go over the NQ version. And again, Morrigan robe will replace both Sorcerer and Genie. Mahatma for elemental dots and more hMP. Nashira manteel is not a mandatory item, but it’s still +5 dark magic skill, plus the very nice look. And hey, it’s red.

Hands

$Wizard\'s Gloves$ $Morrigan\'s Cuffs$

Zenith mitts in order to nuke any regular -not heavily resistant- mob. Will MAYBE use this to trig Sorc in t he future, not sure. Got Morrigan cuffs, so.. bye bye to those for now! Will use for Sorc. ring macro, maybe.
Errant cuffs are another piece for elemental dots build, throw in moar INT please!
And Wizard’s Gloves are really a lovely Elemental skill boost, godsend for HNM fights.
Morrigan cuffs brings the awesomeness of Zenith mitts + magic accuracy. No HP loss is a good thing as well imo.

Looking forward to: Morrigan cuffs, Wizard’s gloves+1 and Sorcerer gloves. Have 8 lumbers out of 12, and missing only level 15 piece. Will replace the mitts. Going to upgrade AF1 hands once I get Temenos item. AF2 is another dark magic boost.

Rings

$Balrahn\'s Ring$

Tamas is indeed the most awesome ring for mages. Must have for a dedicated BLM.
Snow ring is decent piece since I don’t have Sorcerer’s.
Using both Omega and Balrhan rings for max accuracy with sleeps, drain/aspir and such.

Looking forward to: Sorcerer’s Ring. No need to add anything here. Wont replace the Snow since I’ll need it anyway for dots.

Back

$Gleeman\'s Cape$

Einherjar’s Gleeman’s Cape replaced the good old Prism cape (only using this for Stoneskin at the moment) in all nuking macros and elemental dots.

Looking forward to: Invigorating, Altruistic and Merciful cape. My hMP set is still kinda bad at the moment, and I’m missing this backpiece as well. As for sea capes, I’m really having bad luck just triggering Ix’s. Both of them are my main priority.

Waist

$Penitent\'s Rope$

Penitent’s Rope is my current nuking waistpiece, and will be used in the future only for stoneskin and proably to trigger Sorc. ring as well. Not sure.
Qiqirn Sash +1, hMP gear. +3 is really hax.
Anrin, Hyorin, Rairin Obis. Respectively Dark, Ice, and Thunder. I have also light one but only bringing that on other jobs, not BLM.

Looking forward to: Sorcerer’s Belt will replace the P.Rope, since it has 1 more INT than that. and no HP loss is always nice. I’m also 1 organ short to complete Furin obi (wind), thinking mostly to Kirin’s fights; will work on fire and water ones in the future.

Legs

$Sorcerer\'s Tonban$ $Wizard\'s Tonban$ $Baron\'s Slops$

Mahatma slops until I get morrigan. Then I’ll just use this pair of pants on WHM for CV macro.
Sorcerer’s Tonban to strengthen nukes based off current day and Wizard’s to enhance Dark magic skill.
Baron’s slops for hMP.
Not using at the moment but will use Zenith slacks for Sorcerer’s ring macro.

Looking forward to: Morrigan’s slops, Wizard’s Tonban +1, Yigit seraweels. As said above, Morri will replace Mahatma, while Yigit will take over Baron slops, making both of my current gear useless for this job. Currently working on Leujaoum assault points.

Feet

$Herald\'s Gaiters$

Goliard clogs for regular nukes, and Herald’s gaiters comes very handy when you just nuke’d and you blink-run away.

Looking forward to: Yigit Crackows, Morrigan’s Pigaches, Nashira crackows. Goliard are something almost equal to Yigit ones, but I still want got those nice AP feet. Will work on those once I get seraweels.
Morrigan’s will be only useful with full set, otherwise is just another piece for stoneskin macro.
I really doubt I’ll ever get any Nashira since I am not doing Limbus with linkshell (just randomly duoing a couple of areas) but it’s still an item I hope to get somehow in the future.

Additional notes.

Nothing much to say about this, except only for the elemental dots matter. With this setup, I CAN’T reach 150 INT (used to cap the whole dotting scene) and I’m force to use food or etudes.

This is the job I enjoy most, followed by WHM and then PLD. I hope someone found interesting what I wrote here, please add any comment/critic if you feel like so, will be so much appreciated.

I blame Kerb for making me being so anal regarding BLM and its equipment. Duh. And with this post, he’s gonna either praise or yell at me after reading it D:!

I cant believe you didnt get to lot on the Petasos. The LS should be throwing blm gear at anyone mentored by kerb + so dedicated to the job.

A very nice read, lots of nice info for any blm to read.

Only one thing that stood out, your comments about af1 hat (Well only HQ applys really), People like to take it because its cheaper and only 1 less int, and the higher -enm helps hate decay faster meaning more nukes with out going splataru.

And NQ demon is like 5k gils….come on D:!

And enmity………..well, a good BLM should be able to handle his nukes and don't die, each time one eats dirt is either nuke whoring or brainfarting. (or melees who LOVE to mpk mages)

For Taru obviously they can get by with just Demon Helm +1, but for other races it really shines.

MP+30 for the initial cast, switch out to DH+1 afterwards.
